Design Thinking And Collaboration — ICA Uniben Maiden Meetup

I was super excited when I find out about ICA on twitter because I saw an opportunity to collaborate and build a better tech community on my campus, which is something we are mainly about at C Trek Hub. So I applied, the team kept a positive mind, and when I was accepted it was a good news that gave us happy faces, and so the journey of ICA UNIBEN began.

The aim? To build a solid tech community for students who are passionate about tech in my institution, University of Benin.

DevDesigno: Hack and Design with Figma and Github- FUO ICA Maiden Event

There is immense power when a group of people with similar interests gets together to work towards the same goals. This kind of immense power is what was experienced on the 9th of September 2018 at Federal University Otuoke. This Guys were the change agents at our Maiden Edition.

Learning, Networking, Inspiration and Fun were the experiences at our Ingressive Campus Maiden Edition. The Theme of the meet-up was, “DevDesigno: Hack and Design”, Strange name isn’t? yeah! we wanted something unconventional and yet simple.. Considering the fact that a lot of guys in campus either loved designs or were into coding. To catch their attention we replaced the word coding for hacking, just to get them curious.

Code by Design with GitHub and Figma — FUTO Ingressive Community Maiden Event

As co-leads of Google Developer Group on campus, we decided to make use of our position to call up other co-leads to help code by design. It was a simple and done deal. Successful meetings were held, the initial vibe came and left, just few sticking with the plan. We had to press on, felt like our reputations were at stake, designs were out but the plan was never there.

Okay , so this isn’t a regular start to this type of article but it is necessary 🙂 . Wednesday 18th July 2018 was a good morning until a phone call came in . I was informed that the venue we planned to use inside the school would be unavailable . Talk about facing unforeseen circumstances 😩 . In our school , it isn’t very easy to find venues so we had to go outside school to scout for one . Hours later , we found an alternative venue , paid and started the meetup 💪 .

Figma Campus 1.0 — Design Empathy

What do designers do when they gather? They compose themselves. 😁

It was a bright and sunny Wednesday afternoon in Rivers State University, and designers (and design enthusiasts) have converged at the Computer Science Laboratory, the venue for the first Figma Design meet-up on campus. The call that brought out the creatives had been put out some weeks ago and they’ve all shown up with one common expectation; that they’ll better understand what it means to be empathetic designers. Tech For All: Building an Inclusive Ingressive Lautech Campus Community

Tech For All: Building an Inclusive Ingressive Lautech Campus Community

…“Did we achieve it?” have we succeeded in creating an inclusive community where everyone is welcomed, where nothing else matters but pushing each other to become the best they can be? I would have loved to spontaneously reply with an affirmative, Yes we did it!, but it takes more than one meetup to achieve this, but the foundation we have built is solid, and we are not afraid to build a castle on it.

CRUTECH Ingressive Community Maiden Event

CRUTECH Ingressive Community Maiden Event

I had always wanted to play a bigger role in the tech community as I was tired of just being a mere attendee. I wanted to be a speaker, an organizer or play any other backbone role. Ingressive came up with the campus ambassadorship program which I saw on twitter and this was an opportunity to start from my immediate environment . The CRUTECH Ingressive community currently has three ambassadors; myself, Joseph BasseyAghedo Joseph Femi and we all applied without inquiring from each other. The drive was not in me alone after all.

We were very keen on impressing as we have always watched the successes of other tech community events.

UNIUYO Ingressive Maiden Event

UNIUYO Ingressive Maiden Event

I am a lady who had always wanted to be vitally involved in community building. I either wanted to be speaker or an organizer. The passion was there but did not know how to go about it until Ingressive came up with the campus ambassadorship program which I saw on twitter and applied for it. When I got accepted into the program, I did not know how to start, I was scared because I had never headed a community before talk less of organizing an event. So, I waited for others to organize theirs which I took inspiration from. When the CRUTECH Ingressive Community hosted their event, I felt challenged and decided to host mine which was one way of growing the tech community in my school and state.

So in the last months of 2017, I and some of my mates landed a major achievement, we were chosen by Ingressive as one of their campus ambassadors. Part of their many programs for building the tech ecosystem in Nigeria.

So let’s go to where and how the event was carried out successfully. Don’t bother, I won’t bore you by telling you my life story, I will rather go straight to the point.

The event was scheduled for 10 AM, so I left home by 7 am to the venue, It wasn’t easy leaving bed that early but i had to do it for the community...
